In September 2024, Shanghai Soong Ching Ling School became the first location in Asia to install a Pure PT™ field. The 4,175 m² field is used daily by students for sports and physical activities, providing a surface designed for intensive use throughout the school day. The project was delivered together with Borun Sport, GreenFields’ installation partner in China. It also marked another first: the turf for the project was the first Pure PT™ manufactured at TenCate’s Safina facility.

Pure PT™ takes a different approach to artificial turf. Instead of using loose performance infill, the system relies on its fiber structure to support movement, manage impact and create consistent interaction between player and surface. That design is rooted in research at TenCate’s Center for Turf Innovation, where player feedback is combined with biomechanical measurement, lab testing and field testing. The aim is to understand what happens when people actually accelerate, stop, turn and move across a surface, rather than looking at technical compliance alone.

At Shanghai Soong Ching Ling School, that translates into a field used every day by students across different sports and activities. Feedback shared with the project team describes the surface as soft and comfortable to play on.

Schools place particular demands on sports facilities. A single field may accommodate different age groups, activities and repeated sessions throughout the day. Consistency and availability therefore matter just as much as performance. The Shanghai project provides the first real world reference for Pure PT™ in Asia. It also adds another use environment to the growing field experience behind the innovation.
