When Indiana University installed Matrix Helix® in its indoor football practice facility in 2024, the goal was simple: provide athletes with a high-quality training environment that could support the demands of a modern football program.

Ahead of the upcoming season, Indiana University has expanded the same surface technology to Memorial Stadium, creating greater consistency between the environments where athletes train and where they compete.

For football players, thousands of repetitions happen long before kickoff. Practices, conditioning sessions, drills, and walkthroughs all contribute to performance on game day. Maintaining consistency between training and competition surfaces can help create a more familiar experience for athletes throughout the season.

The new Memorial Stadium field features Matrix Helix® turf, RealFill® infill, and a Cushdrain® shock pad system. Together, these components create a complete playing surface designed to support durability, consistency, and long-term performance.

By aligning the stadium field with the indoor practice facility, Indiana has created a more seamless transition between two of the program's most important football environments.

The project included more than a new football surface. Alongside the turf replacement, the track perimeter surrounding Memorial Stadium was resurfaced using Hellas' Q3000 track system. The upgrades improve both the appearance and functionality of the facility while supporting a wide range of athletic activities beyond football.

Together, the improvements represent a significant investment in the student-athlete experience.

Every facility upgrade is ultimately measured by the people who use it. For Indiana University's football program, the new field and track create an environment designed to support athletes through training, preparation, and competition.
